The game

Built in the spirit of Diablo 2

Fenfire is what we wanted from a Diablo 2 successor: the same rhythm, the same kind of loot, and none of the modern shortcuts that flatten it. You get stronger before you get fast, a lucky drop can change your whole build, and the next unique might be on the floor of the next room.

Loot you find, not loot you're handed

No smart loot. White, magic, enchanted, rare and unique items drop for whoever kills the monster, and you decide what is worth keeping.

No level scaling

Every zone has a fixed level. Come back stronger and it stays beaten; walk in too early and it will make you pay.

Runs in your browser

Click Play and you are in the game within seconds — no launcher, no download, no install. Your characters live on the server.

Free, and fair

The whole game is free to play. Nothing that makes your character stronger is for sale.

A hand-painted world

Every zone is built in 3D, then rendered and painted into one large illustrated map, lit by torches, moonlight and spell fire. The heroes and monsters are real 3D characters moving across it.

Five classes

Choose how you fight

Each class has its own skill trees, D2-style: basic skills unlock the main ones, and points spent along a path make the whole path stronger. Three talents at levels 10, 20 and 30 shade the build, and a mercenary can walk beside you.

Mage class emblem

Mage

Primal caster · summoner

Fire, earth, air and water, each a full path of bolts, storms and wards — and the only caster who summons elementals.

Musketeer class emblem

Musketeer

Skirmisher · gunpowder

The blade up close, the gun at range and grenades in between. Rewards footwork and rarely stands still.

Guardian class emblem

Guardian

Celestial warrior

Sun, moon and cosmos: a holy warrior who burns, shields, heals and holds ground nobody else can.

Witch class emblem

Witch

Occultist · necromancer

Death, blood and nature — raise the dead, spend your own life for power, poison and entangle.

Alchemyst class emblem

Alchemyst

Transmuter · trapper

Thrown flasks, traps on the approach, poison and acid that dissolve what armour will not stop.

Itemization

Loot worth hunting

The heart of the game is the item hunt, and it works the way Diablo 2 players expect.

  • Five item qualities — white, magic, enchanted, rare and unique, with affix pools that open up as item level rises.
  • Over 350 uniques, many of them build-defining: granted skills, conversions, raised resistance caps.
  • Runewords and sockets — runes and 85 socketable components, each with its own lines.
  • Crafting scrolls as currency — enchantment, alteration, corruption and socketing, all of them found and traded.
  • A D2-style grid inventory, a large personal stash and a stash shared across your characters.
  • Player trading in town, face to face.

The campaign

Five acts, around eighty zones

The campaign runs to around level 40, from a village at the edge of the woods to an observatory above the clouds, with towns, quests, bosses and dungeons along the way.

Act I The village, crow-haunted farmland, graveyard, church and catacombs
Act II A harbour city, its docks, back alleys and the mansion above it
Act III Jungle, lagoon, coral caves, a pirate bay, a volcano and a sunken city
Act IV Desert dunes, canyons and Egyptian tombs
Act V Enchanted forest, frozen lake, mines, a lunar plateau and the observatory
A hero fighting ghosts and bats on a misty moor

After the campaign

Endgame maps and PvP

  • Endgame maps — map items drop unidentified, roll their own modifiers, and open a remixed version of a campaign zone with its own monsters and boss.
  • Five map tiers, each feeding the next; two maps of one tier fuse into one of the next.
  • A shared hub, the Gallows Inn, with an arena ring where walking in is the challenge.
  • Party play — monsters get tougher and drops richer with every player in the game.
  • A ladder, including a deathless board.
